Will my new Yorkie Puppy get along with a cat/cat's?

Our cat's with Max our Yorkie

I am often asked " will my new Yorkie Puppy get along with my cat?"

When I am asked this I try to find out as much information I can to help determine if adding a new Yorkie Puppy to your home with a cat will possibly work.

There is no way to make this a Yes or No answer to this questions because each situation is different just as each puppy and cat is different.

I might ask:

Is your cat a male or a female?
I find that a male cat is a bit more resistant to a new bouncy playful puppy.

Is your cat neutered or spayed?
A un-neutered or un-spayed cat can have the hormone rush to make it a bit resistant to a new Yorkie puppy. It is best to have any pet spayed or neutered for their overall mental and physical health.

How old is your cat?
Let's face it, age influences just home any person or animal might react to the youthful activity of a Yorkie Puppy. The older the cat is the less forgiving it may be of the bouncy playful puppy that is eagerly trying to play with it's new "friend"

Is your cat de-clawed?
I ask this because it is important to the safety of the puppy and the cat. The cat is the current ruler of the animal's in the house and if it is a dominate cat it  will want to set the stage for he or she being the boss. The cat might want to tap or pat the puppy to show the puppy that it has to behave the way the cats wants. If the cat has claws it can hurt the puppy by scratching them. If the cat has rear and front claws it could injure the puppy by clawing at the puppy to the paint of causing great harm to the puppy. I won't place a puppy in harms way so this is a very important thing to determine before I let a puppy enter this potential cat home.

Tell me about your cat's personality?
This lets me find out if that cat is a fearful or bold personality cat or is it very easy going? A temperamental cat isn't going to be receptive to a new Yorkie puppy? If a cat is a cranky cat that resists interaction with humans or other animals then it wont be fair to the cat to force it to endure the playful puppy.

These are just some of the questions that I ask in this situation.
Do you know some of the other questions I might ask? Go ahead and email me what you think as some of the other questions I ask in this particular situation. at:

Introducing Mercedes

Introducing "MERCEDES"

Hi Everyone, Today I found myself not only enjoying this sunny day with my dogs and puppies but also knowing I am blessed again to be entrusted as their caretaker.

For example: look at this precious puppy, she is just six weeks old and I can already see not only her outer beauty but, her inner beauty as well.

I know I am here to share my God given gifts with my family, friends dogs and puppies and those who still have yet to come into my life.

And while I miss my brother Chris who passed away unexpectedly a short while ago, I know he is proud of me. I am thankful to him for his life, that he shared with me, and for the part he played in my career of being a

Yorkie Breeder.

Spring 2012

Today is a beautiful spring day, and with spring comes new yorkie puppy births. You might know that most animals birth in cycles and yorkies are among the birthing cycle. I know this is strange especially since yorkies are just hairy little people but it's true.

I am expecting several litters in the next two months and with them comes increased work, stress, lack of sleep and Joy. I will elaborate on what each of these things means as far as I can concerned.
  1. Work: When I am expecting a litter, I have to keep a close eye on the expecting mom for days and nights. Gestation is usually 63 days (since we usually do two breeding's that day can very by two days) but it is not unheard of for the females to go into labor after day 58. It is imperative to know and notice every nuance of her both physically and mentally so I can see if anything is changing and labor is about to begin. With this I must do my normal chores and take care of the other dogs all while watching her. This also goes on at night. Most puppies (at least mine) are born during the night. I know this is because the hustle and bustle of the day is over and the expectant mom can relax and rest and this brings on signs of labor.
  2. Lack of sleep: Yes with impending birth coming I find it easier to keep an eye on the girls if they are in a playpen beside our bed. They like it to as they find it comforting to be able to see me. As the expectant birthday looms closer I usually have the expectant mommy in our bed with us. This is so I can catch some rest before mother natures decides it is time to begin contractions. I can catch a few minutes of sleep here and there if she is laying beside me and I can feel her body signals. It is not a sound sleep for me but it helps. The girls like to usually lay up close to my husband Lee with my hand on their tummy. This can go on for day's as I said earlier, gestation is usually 63 days but with two breeding's that day can vary and also some girls deliver earlier then day 63.
  3. Stress: Everything is stressful at birthing time. I worry that the expectant mom is doing well and i am meeting her needs and also the needs of my other dogs. I might have young puppies at this time as well so I need to make sure they are receiving everything they need from me and that their mommy is getting her increased needs met. Mommies and puppies have specific needs that are imperative to have fulfilled every minute of the day and more importantly at night. This usually involves me getting up during the night and tending to varies things that meet their needs. True, this is also why I could have put this under the "Lack of Sleep" category too. The stress part of all of this is something I live with 24/7 every day of the year. I am blessed to be taking care of Live creatures so everything is dependant on me. Their very lives are entrusted to me so I need to make sure I care for them to the best of my ability. No matter how tired or sick I am, I must raise to the occasion and take care of them. This is also a blessing to have God give this gift to me, but it does require me to fulfill this blessing, which is difficult at times
  1. Joy: Yes, great Joy comes with this. I love to watch and hold and snuggle my dogs (and cats). I adore the puppies and the privilege of being present when they come into this world. To see them take their first breath, to see their mommy bonding with them and the puppies with her. To see them open their eyes, to crawl, to learn to walk, then run. To play and explore. And then to meet their new families and bond with them. I treasure knowing what fun and love they have brought into the world and the lives of their new families. I know I was a part of this and it will fulfill their hearts for many years to come.

my "Cleptomaniac" girl JADE

So, yes I have been busy unable to sneak away time to blog for a while. I think things will slow down a bit and I can get back to my regular blogging.

This is a funny story, at least to me it is.
Jade who is our biggest female and also one of our most gentle of girls ever. She is super laid back, which is why she is one of the best female to produce our "therapy" puppies. Anyways, she is due to deliver in about a week from now. So as per usual when the girls are closer to their due dates they move from their regular play pen in either the nursery or family room, to a playpen beside our bed so we can keep a closer eye on them. They then move up onto our bed for the last few nights before delivery. Jade is so laid back that she just chills out all the time and doesn't really play some of the games like "chase" when the other dogs are. She prefers to just watch them or sit on our lap or couch. So with this in mind I want to tell  how about four nights ago I tucked all the dogs and puppies into their cribs for the night and proceeded to take get ready for a early night of sleep. I came over to Jades crib which is right up next to our bed and I saw that several items that were on my night stand were in her crib. I thought that I must have knocked them in there and was happy that she had not torn up the paper or picture that landed in her crib.  Now the key word here is LANDED in her crib. I am a bit of a clumsy person so things landing on the floor or elsewhere is not common place for me, so I just thought this was what had happened, until the next night.
Jade was the first dog to be tucked into her crib for the night. She was busy standing up and peeking over the top watching me tuck the other dogs into their cribs, not making a peek (Jade doesn't really make any barking nosies). She looks adorable as her little ears were all perky and he head tilted to the side and she heard me give the dogs and puppies their "nite-nite Kiss" . When all was done I again got ready for bed and then went to give Jade her nite-nite kiss and I again discovered items in her crib....strange that I wouldn't have noticed those things in her crib when I put her into it just minutes before but again, I am clumsy so I just must not have noticed it. I took the items out and went to sleep after watching t.v.  Jade is standing up in her crib leaning over so I will pet her little head and then laying down again. Now, the next night finds me in my usual routine of tucking dogs and puppies into bed and giving nite-nite kisses. I am very careful this evening and made sure that I had not accidental knocked something into Jades crib. All is well, noting is in there and Jade looks happy to be the last one in bed as she gets a few extra minutes of snuggle time with me before being placed in her crib. She sands up a few times for petting and an extra kiss on the top of her head. I turn on the t.v. and wait to see if Lee is coming to bed to watch a show we taped before closing my eyes. Lee comes in and Jade stands up and gets a couple of kisses from Lee before he gives kisses to all the other dogs and puppies and while he is doing this I see Jade leaning over the side of the crib and reaching over to my night stand. She then takes my notepad and puts it in her crib. I take it out and think it was just a fluke that she picked that up and put it in her crib. But no,..she does it again, this time grabbing my pen.  I then watch her out of the corner of my eye to see what she is up to again and I catch glimpse of her reach my picture frame next... Now this behavior is so adorable to me because she isn't tearing anything up she is just placing items in the crib with her. I couldn't help myself I kept watching her out of the corner of my eye to see what she does next. I am gifted with watching her reach as far as she could to pick up my phone..she tries and tries but cant quite get a hold of it. She then hears me give a little giggle and turns her head toward me and tilts it to the side.

Now I know most people wont believe this part but I know my dogs and they do talk to me and I just know that Jade is saying to me. I'm being a good girl "Mommy" I'm not destroying any of your things I am just going to put them in my crib so I can take care of them for you. I realize that she had been doing this for several nights and that it wasn't me accidental knocking these things into the crib, it was Jade just picking them up and putting them in her crib. I love my dogs and when they do these things I am blessed to see the special little moments and aspects of their personality. I love these little nuances that I am able to view and feel.

My heart might just accidental move the crib closer to my night stand again tonight, this time with a treat on it... to see her take it will be fun....

Daily Miracle

There is times when I feel so blessed to have the gift of being able to see our Lord in my life, that I must share.
I know many people don't always notice the little nuances that God gives to them, but I try to see all of mine that he gives to me. Here is one example.

We had a twelve hour round trip the other day to bring a puppy to someone who was meeting us part way from Plymouth Mass. She had a fear of flying so she wanted to drive here to pick up her new little puppy.

Now it takes a lot for us to get out the door, if we don't have anyone here to "babysit" the dogs and puppies. So we had to get up super early to get every dog and puppies needs met and to get them ready for us to be away for the extended hours. Trust me this is very detailed worked to make sure everything is ready. With this in mind, please also be aware that we also have four pregnant females who will be delivering their puppies in the next two weeks. the first one due to deliver is Emerald, she was due five days from the long drive day I am talking about.
Anyways with her being five days away from delivering, I thought about putting her in her own little area just in case she would go into labor but that would also make her nervous and could bring on early labor and that could mean stillborns or preemie's. I also thought about bringing her with us but that too could bring on early labor which I didn't want to have happen. So after much deep thought I figured with her being five days away from delivery, I would just let her keep running around the house with the other dogs, so she would not get stressed.

Our long day proceeded and we returned home. tucked all the dogs and puppies into their cribs and went to sleep, feeling very tired and dragged out. We really needed the sleep. Emerald was in her crib beside our bed, just as Jocelyn, and Mimosa and Serena...yes your right with four dogs in cribs in our room it is very crowded.
Anyways, Emerald did the typical "nesting" which most dogs do to get their bed fluffed just right for the nights sleep. But, she did this nesting more then once. Hummm..could she be going into labor?
No it's too early, this could not be, at least that is what I thought at the moment.

So, just to make sure I put her in bed with us so I could feel if she was going into labor.
One hour passes, everything was still and quiet. Two hours, good rest going on for humans and doggies. Hour three Emerald is moving around to get comfortable, first leaning on me then on Lee then back to me. Seems a bit odd for her because she usually is a pretty good sleeper. I drift off again.
It is at about hour four that Emerald kisses me on my cheek then on my chin. I'm a little bit awakened by her doing this but still in the sleepy mode of half asleep and half awake. It is at this point that I wrap both of my arms around Emerald instead of just the one. I feel a push, then thinking this can't really have been a contraction I drift back to sleep. Then I feel it again, and within about two minutes I feel it again.
I'm stunned..I know she is in labor as she is having close contractions. I get up and get the whelping box ready for her. I gather Emerald in my arms and carry her to the family room where her birthing crib is now prepared.I get the birthing equipment ready, get the t.v. on, pour a diet coke to try to get awake.

I review what movie I am going to watch to try to stay awake. I also get my datebook and count the days again to see why she is going early. Yes I was right, she is only on day 59 so she is early.
Now I'm scared, this could be a disaster, this could be preemie's.
fifteen minutes passes and low and behold I see her water break, five more minutes the first puppy arrives. A seemly full term female, then fifteen minutes later a second female, she also seems full term. A half hour later a male arrives. The third puppy arrives forty five minutes later and all is well.

This was a blessing from God that all went well and that she waiting until we were home. I also experience daily blessings that God gives us/me. I am also thrilled that I am able to see those blessings whether they are small or big blessings like this one.

Miss Emmy Delivery Day

Today appears is going to be the day Emmy is going to deliver her babies.

She had me up quiet a lot the last few nights. She had additional help in keeping me from getting sleep from my husband, he seemed to think that as long as Emmy was in our bed he might as well snore loudly in my ear. They have made a good team in the task of letting me get some but not a lot of rest. I truly don't mind it that much because it gives me joy to know that Emmy needed to be close to me at this time. Today brings her closer to delivery. It is day 63 from her first breeding. She is restless and clingy. She is also insisting on sitting on my lap as much as possible. Emmy is a dear girl who loves to give kisses and loves to be held. She has had a litter prior to this one and if my memory serves me right she tries to climb out of her playpen and have the babies on my lap. This makes it hard to help her and cut the umbilical cord and take care of them and her. I will just have to wait to see how this progress's No panting

Being a professional breeder sometimes hurts but in a good way.

I often have people say to me "I don't know how you can let the puppies go" . While my usual response is "I can do it because I know they are happy and that their new people are happy. That is true and also it has a hidden pain behind it. Yes, it is what I do for a profession and while I do keep some of the puppies for different reasons, it is also harder to do then you will even know. I can't show my sadness in having a puppy "leave me" because that will cast a dim light on the happy experience the new owners will feel. I want them to have the best feelings for them self and for the puppy too. The while experience will be better if it is filled with their joy, so my true feelings must stay hidden for their befit.

I am usually pretty good at this and every once in a while I will feel a tearing up coming on. That's is when I try to push it back in so the clients don't see it. It is harder then you can ever imagine. I can tell you that after taking care of these little ones since their conception to their birth and through all the weeks that follow, I get to know them in every way. I get to see their special moments. The moment they first coo, they first crawl, their first time walking and then then comes the fun moment they can run and slide from not knowing how to stop running. These are just a few of the special moments I get to be blessed with. I get to see them running and barking in their slumber. I also get to see when they realize they have grown so much they can no longer duck and hide under the chair with their newly captured toy. The special moments are endless.. some even take my breath away.

I keep the puppies at least twelve weeks. Some find their new families sooner then others. I make sure that each puppy gets the right people for them. I am very selective. Since I have breed and raised them it is my pleasure and obligation to make sure they have the right people who will give them the love and care that they deserve. Unlike other breeders, I will keep a puppy as long as needed to ensure they get who they need. Just because someone has the money to purchase one of my puppies does not mean they will get one of my puppies. That is just what happened to Honor/Hero . He is in the picture above. Now, HONOR was a laid back and somewhat shy puppy. He does like to run and play with the other dogs and puppies. Honor liked to be involved when people visited to select a puppy but he stood back a bit, depending on the person or children. He liked children but not high energy ones. He didn't seem to prefer girls over boys, or middle aged people over older ones. It was hard to know just who he seemed to want to live with. He would great me all day long with kisses. He would gleefully run outside and play in the play yard with the other dogs. So I knew he loved play. He mastered the game of fetch very quickly. When people came he interacted with them and would sit on their laps but he had a hesitancy's in his mannerism that let me know they were just not right for him.

This went on for a long time, I know had him at almost six months of age and not knowing just when the right people that he wanted would come along. In order to increase his potential owner base I discounted his price. You see, it isn't just about the money, it is about making a connection of love between puppy and their people, that will bring love and joy to all of them for the next 14-16 years.

Then, I got a phone call from a lady who had two little boys one was 6 and one was 8. She was interested in Honor/Hero and Skeater. She passed my "interview" and set up an appointment for the next day to come and meet the two puppies. I told her about both Honors and Skeaters personalies. so she knew what each of them was about. Then the visit time arrived. As usual I had a talk with the puppies and told them that if they liked these people to let me know. I can just tell when the right connection happens...don't ask me how I just can. It is almost unexplainable how I know and I don't want to bore you by going on and on about it.

I opened the door, closing it behind me so I could greet this family. I told the children about each of the puppies personalities and that since both Honor and Skeater were a bit shy that it might take a few minutes for them to come up to them. I told them that I was going to place cushions on the floor for them to sit on and that they would have a give the puppies time to get comfortable with them before they puppies would come up to them.  With the preparation in place I then lead them all into our house. Then, with great surprise to me Honor came right up to the mom and placed his feet on her leg so he could look up to her and great her. WOW did that surprise me because he has NEVER done that before, he has always been so reserved when people first arrive. The next moment he was waiting for her to sit down and he immediately crawled up on her lap. He then greeted both of the boys, and went and layed on the cushion the mom was on, with his body pressed as close to her back as he could get. Skeater was sniffing around and darting between wanting to meet them and being back further in the room. Honor then went and sat on one of the boys, then the next. He then showed the boys how good he is at playing fetch..back to the mom, back to the boys... he was happy and so were they. The brothers were so good with him, they were gentle and patient and calmly paying and holding him.   Then, without a clue he would do this, the moment happened... Honor came to me and lifted his front legs up to kiss me and he gazed in my eyes for a while. You see he was telling me he loved this family, that these were the people he was waiting for. That he wanted to share his life with him. The tears then filled my eyes because he was saying, thanks for taking good care of me, I love you but I need to go now. My heart was happy but breaking too. I love him, but i also love him enough to let him go, I didn't know he loved me that much back. I'm glad he told me. I will never forget that moment with him, or what he said to me. These are the moments that I know the love I give to each of my dogs and puppies is felt by them. People may say that dogs don't talk to their people but, if you love them and listen they tell you everything, you just have to listen. they say it with their eyes. It's all there is you look deeply into them.

I will carry the treasured moment between Honor and I deeply touched in my heart. And even though he brought tears to my eyes, they were tears of love...

Today mother nature decorated our back yard for Halloween. As you can see these are creepy birds that were perched by our pond. While normally this is not something I would blog about, because you wouldn't think this has anything to do with our Yorkies. It does in fact pertain to yorkies, oddly in the reason why.

The buzzard's, vultures, ugly birds arrived early in the morning, while the backyard was still covered with fog or wispy mist as it rose from the pond. I was excited at knowing I would be able to let the dogs outside today since they were unable to go outside the last two days due to the cold damp weather. I make it a point to tell my puppy clients to be aware of Hawks and owls because they will swoop down and snatch up a small dog particularly yorkies. So with the creepy birds looming near I was able to let the dogs enjoy the sunny day and spend their time barking at the creepy birds. The birds didn't seem to care about the dogs, but i know that if the play yard did not have bird netting covering it, the dogs might have been prey. Basically, I have lost my train of thought on where I was going with this story. I guess that can happen when your tired from enjoying the wonderful weather. I had such a nice time, knowing the dogs and puppies were enjoying their day. A sense of peace set over me, like a human mom when she sees her child playing in the park for the last time before winter starts. I feel like that with these enchanting creatures, each has their own traits & quirks but overall each is a short hairy child. Each dog and puppy is raised in our home with freedom to run and play and nap. They are little hairy kids, they fill my heart with great joy in even their simple games they play. I am rambling on and on about this, suffice it to say..I love them, I treasure them.

New-Born Puppies Announcment

Hi Everyone,

We were blessed with a eventless birth of Savanna & Remington's yorkie puppies, in the wee hours on Monday morning.

They arrived in this order, A male at 3:32 a.m. weight of 4.7 ounces, A female at 4:12 a.m. weight 4.5 ounces. the third puppy is a female at 4:51 a.m. at a mere 2.1 ounces (this puppy is very tiny and will need a lot of her mommies attention, especially in the nursing) and then the fourth puppy is a male at 5:55 a.m. weight of 4.6 ounces.

savannaoct8one We are at the bedside of Savanna very often to make sure the tiny female is able to nurse. So far she is attaching and seems ot be able to content with her siblings that are twice her size.

Savanna is in love with her new babies. She hasn't wanted to get our of her whelping box to eat so we are serving her breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed.

The mommies love their new babies but they adore me serving their every need. To tell you the truth I love tending to them too.

The wonderful Life that DIESEL get to live.

This is DIESEL, he is one of our Yorkie Puppies and he gets to live a very exciting life with his new owners.
I got a phone call from John & Dawn Etling. They wanted to arrange to meet DIESEL when they would be coming through town. You see, they are Husband & Wife Professional  Cross Country Truck Drivers.  WOW that is so interesting of a career. They have Pongo their Yorkie and he needed a Brother, so they arranged to meet us and get to know Diesel. Now how cool is it that his name is Diesel already, perfect right!

I had been a little big skeptical at first about one of my puppies spending so much time in a truck, but the more I got to know John and Dawn over the phone, my concerns went away. They take outstanding care of Pongo, so they would take great care of Diesel too. They have a home so when they have down time they are able to play and walk and just relax with the dogs, then they have family too that enhances the life experiences for the dogs too. When they are on the road traveling they stop every few hours and take walks and play time and eat etc.. They go to pretty destinations and get work done at the same time. To me that's the best of both worlds, fun and work combined. When either John or Dawn are driving the other person is sleeping, this works great for both dogs and humans. I was very impressed with the care they took with Pongo, so when we were getting to know each other John told me that when they stop they make sure NOT to walk Pongo in the designated dog area because they did not want to expose Pongo to any illness's that could be in that area. That told me that they were concerned for Pongo's overall health and that they would be the same with Diesel. I was further impressed with the size of the interior of the truck, it is like a mobile efficiency apartment, including a bed and lots of room to move around in. Dawn and John make sure that they eat the premium food we recommended and that both of the "boys" get lots of personal attention and play time. They are concerned to do everything they can to make sure that the boys are physically healthy and mentally happy too. Just take a look at these pictures and you will see that This is one fun life they get to lead. the picture of the puppy alone looking out the window is Diesel and the other is of the boys together looking out the window of their home away from home.

If you want to visit John & Dawn online they have a Weather Website at http://www.k3jae.com/
Feel free to vist their website. you see hes a weather reporter for "The Weather Channel" too! See, very interesting life.

This is Penelope, she is the daughter of Phoebe and she is just a wonderful little Yorkie. She is a little over two years old. We're waiting until her heat cycle to breed her for the first time. We just know she will  have exceptional little puppies. Our plan is to breed her to Remington, this should result in beautiful, sweet, playful puppies.

If you look closely, you might notice she has a temporary cast on. I'll tell you quickly about that. As a professional Breeder I often remind people to be careful and not leave their puppy or dog on a couch or piece of furniture as they could (depending on size) jump or fall off and get injured. I was grooming Penelope and had her on the nursery counter to brush her out and blow her dry. The moment I took the towel off of her she ran and jumped off the couter top in a split second. Now, I have done this literally thousands of times over the 22 years I have been breeding dogs and not once...have I had a puppy or dog get away and jump down. I have come close but not one has ever actually jumped....until PENELOPE... She did not break her leg but she did hurt her leg so the vet braced it in this temporary cast.

Now for the point of this story.

Penelope has enjoyed being on the "teacup side" of the house. This is the part of our house where our little two pound ELLA and two pound LACY live, as well as INDIA. Penelope has been loving being able to run (yes, cast and all) down the hallway, into the laundry room, into the office and most especially into our bedroom and bathroom. She is smiling as she runs and we can just see her thrill and happiness of being a part of the "teacup" side of the house.
So with this pure joy in Penelope in mind, I am telling you a tiny story of Penelope's cuteness.
I was folding and sorting clothes on our bed and the "teacups" were running in and out of our room, taking turns going up to the screened french door to bark at the birds and the mysterious monsters that leark outside. (ha, ha, I call them monsters, they really just bark to be dogs at weird sounds). I notice Penelope barking at herself in our floor mirror. This was adorable because it reminded me of the experience I was blessed with in my own children discovering themselves in a mirror for the first time.

O.K. now for a quick digress.. I am often blessed not only with the special moments of these yorkies both puppies and adults, but also because so many experiences are closely related to raising my children.

Now for what you have been waiting to hear, the reason for my elongated tale today. I saw Penelope twisting and flitting and hopping on the pink pokadotted fluffy dog bed in our room. She was flitting around just like a kitten does when it finds a mouse. I watched her for a minute as I was enjoying her delight. I then came back to reality to having to be a Yorkie Mommie and try to figure out just what she was toying with. I discovered she had found a treasure of a bic pen top...Oh was this yorkie in heaven with the way she could flip it into the air and try to catch it and then hide it in the tucks of the bed and find it again.

All pure joy for her and for me until I had to take it away from her so she, or any of the other yorkies didn't get hurt by choking on it.  Just as a Mommy takes a pebble away from their child, so they wont be harmed, I had to take the pen top.

This is one of the reasons I love my job, it brings new experiences that are kissed by past experiences of being a Mommy to my little children. A daily blessing through the years.

I just know that when I have grandchildren someday I will get to be enriched again with the wonderful tiny moments of life.

Yorkies on a rainy day.

This is what a Yorkie Puppy looks like when they are sulking that they can't play outside becausee it is raining.

You can be assured that she is saying "oh fooey, we have only been outside for fifteen minutes and now Amy is going to make us come back inside because of this rain that someone named "Mother Nature" is messing up our play time. We don't know who that "Mother Nature" is that she keeps talking about, but we know we don't think she is very nice to spoil our play time.
Today we were going to play tag, and then play fetch... after fetch we were going to drink some water and then take a short rest. I know for sure that I was going to be the leader in a great game of chase. We puppies we're even going to let the adult yorkies play with us. Now here we are having to go inside and we know that we can't run as far inside as we can outside.

Oh, I forgot.. when were inside we get extra treats. Now that is a good thing. Maybe Amy will make something yummy and accidental drop some on the floor. This could be a good day after all.

Yorkie Puppy for sale currently named VANESSA

This little cutie pie is VANESSA, she is adorable. I wanted to tell you a quick story about her.
Today I was getting this group of puppies out of their playpen to go to their play yard to being their day. I first took SKEATER the brother and then the other sister SYMONE. When I went to pick VANESSA up she tilted her head to the side as if to ask a question. I thought this was cute but did not know what she was trying to tell me. I put her in the play yard and watched her for a minute or two, she kept gazing back at me and tilting her head. I asked her what she was telling me and she just could not get the point of her head tilting across to me. I went to take the other puppies out of their play pens and into their play yards.
About this time I started to change the laundry in their play pens and get treats ready for all the puppies.

It was about this time that I notice Vanessa was really staring at me and trying so hard to tell me something. So I picked her up and snuggled her up by my neck. This thrilled her and she graciously gave me a few sweet little puppy kisses. Now it is at this time that I though, "oh, she was just wanting some snuggle time" . But when I started to put her down again into the play yard I touched her little foot and felt something was there. It turns out she had one of her honey smack treats in-between her toes. It was making her feel funny and she didn't know what to do to remove the sticky treat from her toes.

I removed it and she went back into the play yard to happily play with her siblings and puppy friends.I am glad of this head tilting for two reasons, well actually three. The first is: it just looks so darn adorable.
Second: it lets me know something is amiss and last: it lets me know my puppies are smart enough to communicate with me and tell me they require something from me. This is great to know because they will also let their new owners they need assistance or just a snuggle..... A Yorkie snuggle is a gift from the Lord, it feels so good and makes your heart happy.

This is a picture of Natasha (she is named after one of the vet techs at "Healthy Pets of Wedgewood"

Natasha delivered her first litter today of two males and one female. One of the puppies needed assistance with his birth and I had to use a medication and massage to get his breathing stimulated and then regulated. Natasha watched as I worked on him as she seemed to know I was helping save her newborn. When I handed him back to her she started to clean him right away. So I knew shw would bond with him even though I had handled him before she had a chance to clean him. The cleaning of the newborns is vitally important for both

long time from last posting.

I am going to try to post as often as I can.
Today short story is bascially an update. We had several yorkie puppie litters born during the late spring early summer. This is why I have not written, as it takes a lot of time to raise healthy yorkie puppies.

Today finds us "babysitting" our grandpuppies.. We have our daughter Jennifer & son-in-law Craigs dog Martini here so she can be bred. We also have our son Joshua & Daughter-in-law Katies three yorkies here, Dakota, Ireland and London the newest baby.  Josh has a conference in Vegas and Katie is going along. She wont see much of Josh until Friday as he will be working from sunup to past sundown at the conference. Katie's sister Kirsten and her mom Deanna are joining Katie in Vegas and will be able to have good fun and keep Katie occupied while Josh is working. We have family our in Vegas too. I don't know if they will have a moment of free time to visit this trip since it is a work trip.

We wanted to take a family trip to Vegas for our 30th anniversary last year but we just could not leave with so many litters due to be born. Hoping to correct that soon. Love family time and they all love Vegas. I would also prefer a beach and tropical local but I want everyone happy and occupied.

We now have the livestream tv cam on most of the time on the website. Let me know what you think of it?

Yorkies and a STORM READY PLAN

This is a picture of Fiona (left) and her mommie Martini (right) The reason I took this picture is because I wanted to memorialize this day.
Martini lives with my daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Craig. She is expecting a litter of puppies very soon, so she comes to her human grandma's house for the delivery. We have her daughter Fiona, she is almost two years old and hopefully she will go into heat soon and have yorkie puppies. She will be an excellent mommie as she is very gentle and nurturing in personality but..she is afraid of thunder.  We have two Yorkies that are afrid of thunder, one is Mercedez and the second is Fiona.

Yorkies and dogs can become fearful of thunder at any point in their lives. the reason for the fear is hard to document but it is almost never a permanent fear. some dogs can shake & tremble, some hide some (mainly hound dogs) can howl but with my two yorkies they just want to be as close to me as they can be. that usually means on the chair under a blanket or in our bed again under a blanket. It can make you feel very good that they seek Solis with you but it can also make you feel bad if you are away from home and a storm happens as you know they are in distress.

With this in mind I recommend that you have a STORM READY PLAN in place. What I would recommend you do is always have a  t.v. or radio with a BATTERY BACKUP on at all times when you are away from home. I recommend you use this on a talk radio Chanel as Yorkies find the human voice comforting. you use a battery operated for cases when the electricity goes out. I also know that some flashlights with battery backups placed in several electric plugs (near where your Yorkies bed is) this provides light near where your Yorkie will seek comfort in the darkness of the storm. Then place a piece of clothing that you have recently worn in your yorkies bed. They will find this a bit comforting as well, since your sent will make them feel you are near.

Those of you who know that these things will help sooth your dog but you still want to add extra comfort can tape record your telling a story or taking to your dog on a tape recorder. I recommend you use a recorder that will do an automatic rewind and replay over and over again. Your dog will be grateful that you had the foresight to take this extra special effort to make them feel a bit safer and less stressed while you are away from home. This also can work at other times and not just during a storm.

Just think in these terms,  if you leave your clothing for scent and your voice for your dog when you are away, your dog will know that you love them and will be home soon.

Yorkie's and Spring

Now with Spring approaching I gave the Yorkie Puppies and Adults a quick taste of the warm weather.
My heart was thrilled to see the Yorkies running and playing in the outside play yard.
I am blessed to be able to see the yorkie puppies as their learn that the world is bigger then our house. the first time they see the outside they each have a different reaction. some puppies run as if they always knew their was a outside to frolic and play in. Other puppies are more tentative and walk outside while looking side to side to see if the next step is safe or if something is going to goggle them up into a dark vortex. Other puppies want "me" to go outside with them to keep them safe. Now the puppies who want me to go outside with them warm my heart as it makes me feel important and special. the puppies that run willingly into the play yard also touch my heart because I know I have given them confidence.
then as the minutes pass the tentative puppies join the confident puppies in play and games of chase. That is when I know that i really did a good job in raising these little creatures because they are all happy and having fun and loving just being a puppy. They thrive with play and affection, they run up to me as I sit on the ground and they give me quick kisses before running off again to either be chased or to chase.

Yes every time the puppies get to go outside this experience gets repeated with the exception of the tentative puppies, they have gotten their confidence and now join the rank of a confident and happy yorkie puppy. yes I did a good job as all are thriving but I do miss the brief moments when they needed me to help them experience the world for the first time. It was the same feeling when my children learned to walk for the first time. They start off tentative and then thriving a walk. they just don't need you to cling to. As a mother you always miss that feeling that they find you as a safety net for them, it feels good to be needed like that. I think that is why I love raising the Yorkie Puppies. I get to have these first time experiences over and over again. I also get to know that I have provided this feeling for the family's that purchase my Yorkie Puppies, they get to have these precious moments as well. Basically all of us are blessed by the Yorkie Puppies and their lives we can partake in. I do have the added bonus of being the first to see them open their eyes, to crawl and to walk. I also get to be the first to see them start to share their lives with their new family, and to know that that family now gets to have the "first time" experiences... The best part of all of this is that the Yorkie Puppies don't even know they are giving us a thrill to see them learn and have fun. To them they are just being a happy puppy and loving being just that.

An unexpected yorkie event.

As a Yorkie Breeder I am very much use to reading the subtle nuance's in my Yorkies. One moment you can be deeply engrossed in folding the laundry, when a small noise alerts me to something is needed by the yorkies. This usually means one of the cats id taunting them in the window, or someone is at the door. Time has taught me to know what noise means what. The same can be said by each individual yorkies body stance, and movement and voice. I usually am alerted to a specific need of a particular yorkie just by the little difference in the way they are walking or gazing at me. When I see one just standing still with a foot in the air then I know they have their little toe caught in their hair. If they are a bit prancy (prancing) then this usually means that they have had another yorkie take their chewy and they want me to get it back for them. There are many other things that tell me in one way or the other that something is amiss.  This brings me to yesterday, Monday March 13, 2011.

I had placed Fallon who is due to deliver in five days in her playpen when I went to run a errand. It is my custom to put the tiny dogs in their playpen and any other dogs that are pregnant in their playpen. I do this just to be sure that they are safely tucked away when I step out of the home.

When I returned from the store I got the tiny dogs out of their playpen/crib and got Fallon out of hers and then I put Fallon back into the kitchen with the other dogs and myself. I wanted to cook vegetable soup for dinner. I passed out the good dog treats, this is their reward for being good while I was gone. They were busy eating their treat when I noticed Fallon was panting. This is not unusual for Fallon as she is very attached to me and gets a bit nervous when she is away from me even for a minute. She paces when I'm even in antoher room from her, so I figured that she might have paced in her playpen/crib. She would stop panting soon,or so I thought... I noticed she did not eat her treat, again I thought she just wanted me to pick her up and would prefer me to her treat (I guess I was flattering myself a bit here).

I began cutting the meat and onions, and brazing them on the stove. I cut up most of the vegetables I was going to add and placed them aside while the meat and onions and tomatoes simmered. It had now been about 45 minutes since I had gotten Fallon out of her crib and she was coming up to me in a very agitated state and moving from side to side. This was not her normal behavior even if she was wanting to be close to me, so I took her into the family room and laid her on a blanket stretched out beside Lee.
I told Lee she seems a bit nervous and that I wanted him to keep an eye on her while I worked on the soup.

About five minutes had passed since I placed her beside Lee when I heard him say, "Hey Amy, she's pushing." This meant Fallon was having contractions. I did not expect this because gestation although it is 58-63 days, Fallon had not gone before day 63 before.

I rushed to Fallon's side and Lee set up a new playpen for her to deliver in. The other playpens were in the hallway and bedrooms. Lee had no more then set up the playpen and was about to place the crib liner in and the whelping box when lo and behold Fallon delivered her first puppy, a male. I was worried that this litter would be preemies and I prefer them to go to full term at 63 days and not 58 days. But this little guy was breathing and moving normally and had all of his hair. If they don't have all their hair then they surely are preemies.

By the end of the evening four yorkie puppies had been safely delivered. Three males and one tiny female. I also took a moment to thank the good Lord that they had all been born healthy and that Fallon was doing well and bonding with her newborns.

This is why I am so glad that I know each of my dogs well enough to notice the subtle nuances I mentioned earlier in the posting. If I had not known Fallon so well I might have missed what she was trying to tell me. I had not even a clue she was going to deliver. She has been sleeping with me for two weeks and not a glimmer of labor had even hinted she as going to go into labor.

I am thankful for a healthy litter and for the blessing of my being in-tune with my dogs and puppies.
P.S. the soup was very good, at least my hubby Lee thought it was.

Yorkie Puppies enjoying their friend Kaitlyn

If you want to know some of the fun things that "go into" making your new Yorkie Puppy a special Yorkie Puppy then please enjoy this picture and Yorkie Adventure.
Once a week or more we have teens and children comie to "play" with the yorkie puppies. This is super important because this is also puppy socialization which is paramount to puppy development. If this step is missed, then you will never have one of the most crutial elements that contributes to the affectionate & playfulness personality traits.

Kaityln is like a puppy whisper'er as they gravitate towards her when they want to snuggle and relax and be touched. Count the puppies just for fun as it is hard to tell just how many are with Kaitlyn. some of the ears are tapped to encourage proper ear stance. Ears can "drop"  during the teething process. So taping aids it getting them to stand.  I personally prefer a hairy ear so I do not shave the ears as other breeders do to get correct stance. the reason I don't shave it that sometimes the hair never grwos back and I hate a naked ear. I love to see the flowing hair on the ears especially when they are prancing across the floor.
